Street Cat Bob's Statue Unveiled in London (B2)
If you like reading and cats, you probably know the book "Street Cat Named Bob" by James Bowen. A touching story about a drug addict who found an injured cat, cured him, looked after him and found a meaning of life in him. In 2012 James Bowen wrote the first autobiographical book about their friendship and it has been a bestseller. Translated into 40 languages, smart ginger Bob touched the heart of millions of people around the world. For many lost souls he became a symbol of hope. and faith that everyone deserves a second chance. More books about Bob followed and James Bowen has become a well-known and respected man.
Sadly, Bob passed away in June 2020 at the age of about 14. He succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a car.
Heatbroken Bowen determined to immortalise his legacy. And after a year of hard work he could introduce the worthy memorial to the public.. A bronze statue of his soulmate Bob, one of the most famous felines ever, was unveiled on Monday July 15, 2021. The author of the life-size statue is Tanya Russell.
Now the memorial (a granite bench and the statue) is open to public. It is on Islington Memorial Green, London, not far from Angel tube station.
