Painted Stones (A2)

04.08.2021

Walking is a favourite free time activity for many people. And sometimes you can find a "treasure" on your way - a painted stone

What is it?

People paint stones and hide them in different places. Other people find the stones and they can keep them or, more often, take them to another place.  Rock art is a new fashion nowadays - perhaps because it's cheap, it's creative and nearly everyone can do it.

The pictures on stones are different quality, sometimes they are very simple but sometimes they are real works of art!

What to do when you find a painted stone?

  • look at the painting and admire it
  • take a photo of both sides
  • follow the instructions on the other side of the stone (you can either keep the rock or rehide it somewhere else)
  • share the photo on a social media site (for example Facebook page Kamínky)
I found this big and beautiful painted rock last month. It's Freudenstein in Jáchymov, painted by Hana Podrazká

Rock painting & hiding is not only a Czech hobby, It's popular also in other European countries, in the UK and even in the USA and Australia.
